“Kaela closed her eyes and felt her breath slowly moving up and down with the rhythm of the butterfly’s wings… Up and down – in and out. Awake or asleep, happy or sad, her breath was moved by some unseen hand, up and down, like the wings of a butterfly softly stroking her heart.”

Our first breath is our entry into this world. They say that dolphins breath consciously. Even when they are asleep one part of their brains remembers to breath “in and out”, “in and out”. We don’t have to move our breath to live, but our lives are enriched when we take a moment to feel the breath move inside of us. It can change how we respond moment to moment when we stop and notice the softness of breath when we are calm or the challenge of taking a deep breath when anger rages like a fire-storm inside. Breath keeps us alive moment by moment. Perhaps that is why so many people love to sit by the ocean and hear the waves crash on the beach and scrape against the sand in a steady rhythmic motion. In and out… In and out…
