“I never made one of my discoveries through the process of rational thinking.” – Albert Einstein
Have you ever noticed that when you are shopping for a specific car you start seeing that vehicle all over town. It’s not that there are suddenly more of those vehicles. Our brains constantly filter out vast amounts of information that we receive through our senses and then focuses on things that are of interest to us, or things that reaffirm who we think we are. We will even remember events and people that match our mood of the moment.
We can use this filter to our advantage by accessing our inner healer. Writing down a Wellness Vision helps our brain focus on things in our life that support and foster wellness. This vision is a statement of who your best self is and what health-promoting, life-giving behaviors you want to do consistently. This is an opportunity to identify what’s working now in your life and the strengths you can draw on to foster health and well-being. This is a chance to stop and visualize what it would be like to be in that vision, and the opportunity to step out of the maze of problems and into the realm of possibilities.
I recommend taking time out of your day-to-day life when you create your Wellness Vision. Sit in silence and notice your breath moving in and out. Think of something that evokes gratitude or joy inside of you. Imagine your favorite wizard appearing with a special spell that grants you the wellness of your dreams. Write down what that feels like and looks like for you. Write it in the present tense. There is no right or wrong to do this and it’s okay to change it over time.
This vision is for you, so use it in the way that is most meaningful for you. Some people read it before bed, while others like to remember first thing in the morning. However you choose to use this vision, it is most effective if you take a moment remember the feeling behind it. You can post it over your desk or by the sink and then notice what health creating things catch your attention. Maybe you’ll be drawn to a yoga class or a walk in nature; maybe a big salad or a funny movie: or maybe you’ll remember to say “I love you” to someone important in your life.
The greatest healer is seated right inside each of us and in many cases we need to slow down enough to remember what we already know.
“I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be.”
I want to thank everyone that gave me such a warm send off from Boulder. I am settling into my life in Western North Carolina and loving the vast array of green I see in every direction. The sound of water from the many streams and creeks in the area is really sweet music for me. The beauty of this place surprises and delights me every day.
I am available for phone consultations and loving the time I spend with clients. I have also completed the class with Dr. Breseden and am one of his MPI Cognition Qualified Practitioners. This includes:
- Comprehensive basic training in The Bredesen Protocol™, a personalized, comprehensive protocol for the reversal of cognitive decline in individuals with early Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), subjective cognitive impairment (SCI), or at risk for cognitive decline.
The good news is that there is so much we can do to care for our brains. I am happy to consult in other areas as well and can be reached at:
